Basalte Casambi Gateways — what they do and how they work with Basalte Home
Basalte’s Core Casambi gateway brings Casambi wireless lighting into Basalte Home, letting specifiers and installers control Casambi-enabled luminaires and scenes from one unified Basalte interface. Read how Core Casambi works, what hardware you need, best-practice setups and use cases for homes and high-end projects.

What is Basalte Core Casambi?
Basalte Core Casambi is a module that brings Casambi-based wireless lighting into the Basalte Home platform so designers, integrators and end users can manage Casambi fixtures alongside KNX, audio and shades inside the Basalte UI. In short: it’s the Basalte → Casambi “gateway” that removes the need to manage two separate control apps for lighting vs. the rest of the house.
Hardware & requirements for Basalte Casambi integration
- Basalte Core server (Core Plus or Core Mini) — Core Casambi runs on a Basalte Core server. You must have a Core server in the installation to use Core Casambi.
- Casambi-enabled luminaires / nodes — Any Casambi-ready drivers, luminaires or Casambi-enabled modules that belong to the Casambi ecosystem. The Casambi mesh is the layer that these nodes use to communicate.
- Optional: Casambi Cloud Gateway — for remote cloud access, monitoring or multi-network integration you may add a Casambi Cloud Gateway (standard Casambi product). This provides remote control/monitoring and cloud features.
How the Basalte → Casambi gateway works
Basalte Core Casambi acts as a bridge: it discovers and imports devices from the local Casambi mesh into Basalte Home, exposes scenes and groups, and lets Basalte UI elements (touchpanels, apps, wall controls) operate Casambi devices alongside KNX, AV and shading systems. The result is a single user experience and simplified commissioning workflows.
Key technical points
- Device discovery & mapping: Core queries the Casambi network and maps devices/groups to Basalte rooms and scenes.
- Two-way control: Where supported, Basalte controls affect the Casambi network and vice versa — keep in mind firmware and profiles must be compatible.
- Remote access: Adding a Casambi Cloud Gateway gives remote control and monitoring for the Casambi mesh if remote features are required.
Setup & commissioning checklist
- Ensure the Basalte Core server (Plus or Mini) is installed and reachable on the network.
- Install and update the Basalte Home firmware / Core software to the release that includes Core Casambi.
- Add the Casambi devices to a local Casambi mesh (pair luminaires / nodes using Casambi app).
- In Basalte Core, enable the Core Casambi module and run the device discovery to import nodes/groups.
- Map imported devices to Basalte rooms, assign scenes and test two-way control (Basalte UI → Casambi, Casambi physical controls → Basalte).
- Optional: add a Casambi Cloud Gateway for remote service & monitoring.
Use cases: when Basalte Casambi gateways are the right choice
- Luxury residential projects where aesthetics and a unified UI matter — Basalte Home plus Casambi lighting provides a single control surface.
- Renovations & retrofits where rewiring is limited — Casambi wireless nodes reduce cabling while Basalte gives the full home visualisation.
- Mixed systems (KNX + wireless lighting): Basalte Core handles KNX natively while Core Casambi brings in wireless lighting for a hybrid solution.
Tips & best practice for specifiers and installers
- Use a dedicated Basalte Core server per building for best performance; Core Mini is ideal for compact installations while Core Plus is suited to multi-zone audio + large visualisations.
- Keep Casambi firmware up to date and standardise device profiles across the project for predictable behaviour.
- If remote management or analytics are required, include a Casambi Cloud Gateway during the initial install (cheaper to plan in than retrofit later).
FAQ
- Do you need a Basalte Core server to use Core Casambi? Yes — Core Casambi is a module that runs on Basalte Core servers (Core Mini or Core Plus).
- Can I keep using the Casambi app once Core Casambi is installed? Yes — Casambi devices still function in the Casambi app; Core Casambi synchronises control so users can operate devices from Basalte Home as well.
- Do I need a separate Casambi Cloud Gateway for remote access? For cloud/remote monitoring and multi-network bridging, adding a Casambi Cloud Gateway is the standard approach.
